Every email has a class: transactional (the default) or marketing. The class changes what Sendbaze adds to the message and which rules apply.

Transactional

Email a person expects because of something they did: an order confirmation, a one-time password, a password reset, an invoice, a delivery update.
  • Sent to anyone, no consent record needed.
  • No unsubscribe headers: recipients cannot opt out of their own receipts.
  • Still blocked for addresses that hard-bounced or complained, because sending to them again only hurts your reputation.

Marketing

Newsletters, promotions, product announcements: email people opted in to receive.
  • Send "class": "marketing".
  • Sendbaze adds List-Unsubscribe and one-click unsubscribe headers, so Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook show an Unsubscribe button. Put {{unsubscribe_url}} in your HTML or text to add a visible link too.
  • Recipients who unsubscribe are suppressed for marketing only; your transactional email still reaches them.
  • The complaint monitor watches marketing more closely: at 3 or more complaints and a complaint rate of 0.1% over 24 hours, sending pauses and the owners are emailed. See reputation.
Use a separate sending subdomain for marketing (news.yourshop.co.za) so a bad campaign never dents the reputation of your transactional mail.

SMS classes

SMS uses the same two classes with an extra rule: marketing SMS may only go out between 08:00 and 20:00 SAST, not on Sundays or public holidays. Messages sent outside the window are held and sent at 08:00 on the next permitted day. See SMS.
