# DNS guides

> Where to paste the records at Cloudflare, Afrihost, Xneelo, GoDaddy and Namecheap.

Every registrar asks for the same three things per record: a **type**, a **host** (also called name) and a **value** (also called target, content or points to). Copy them from the Domains page. The notes below cover the quirks of each provider.

> [tab] Cloudflare
>
> 1. Open the zone, then **DNS** → **Records** → **Add record**.
> 2. For each DKIM record choose type **CNAME**, paste the host and target, and set **Proxy status** to **DNS only** (grey cloud). A proxied CNAME cannot be verified.
> 3. For the return path add an **MX** record with name `mail`, mail server `feedback-smtp.af-south-1.amazonses.com`, priority `10`, and a **TXT** record with name `mail` and content `v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all`.
> 4. Add the DMARC **TXT** with name `_dmarc`.
>
> Cloudflare propagates in seconds; press **Check now** in the dashboard.

> [tab] Afrihost
>
> 1. In ClientZone open **Domains** → your domain → **DNS Management**.
> 2. Choose **Add record**. Enter only the part before your domain in **Hostname** (`abc123._domainkey`, `mail`, `_dmarc`); Afrihost appends the domain.
> 3. CNAME targets and the MX server should end without a trailing dot.
> 4. Save. Changes usually show within 15 minutes.

> [tab] Xneelo (Hetzner South Africa)
>
> 1. In konsoleH open **Manage Services** → **DNS** for the domain.
> 2. Add each record with **Add DNS record**. Enter the short host (`abc123._domainkey`, `mail`, `_dmarc`).
> 3. For MX set priority `10`. For TXT paste the value without surrounding quotes; konsoleH adds them.
> 4. Xneelo refreshes zones every 15 to 30 minutes.

> [tab] GoDaddy
>
> 1. Open **My Products** → the domain → **DNS**.
> 2. **Add** each record. GoDaddy calls the host **Name** and the target **Value**; enter the short host without the domain.
> 3. If GoDaddy already has a parked `mail` record, delete it first so the MX and TXT can be created.
> 4. TTL can stay at the default. Propagation takes up to an hour.

> [tab] Namecheap
>
> 1. Open **Domain List** → **Manage** → **Advanced DNS**.
> 2. Under **Host Records** choose **Add new record**. Enter the short host in **Host**.
> 3. For the MX record switch **Mail Settings** to **Custom MX** and add the server with priority `10`.
> 4. Namecheap propagates within 30 minutes.

> [!TIP]
>
> Not sure a record is live? Query it yourself: `dig +short CNAME abc123._domainkey.yourshop.co.za` or `nslookup -type=TXT mail.yourshop.co.za`. The dashboard shows the same answer under **found**.
