# Marketing email

> What Sendbaze adds to marketing email, how one-click unsubscribe works, and the rules for sending to people who opted in.

Send newsletters and promotions with `"class": "marketing"`. Sendbaze then does the things Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook require of bulk senders.

## What is added

* **`List-Unsubscribe` and `List-Unsubscribe-Post` headers** on every marketing email, so mail clients show an **Unsubscribe** button next to the sender. One click marks the address `unsubscribe` on your suppression list and emits an `email.unsubscribed` webhook.
* **`{{unsubscribe_url}}`** in your HTML or text is replaced with the same link, so you can add a visible footer link. Use it: some clients only show the button for senders they already trust.
* **Header hygiene**: `Message-ID`, `Date` and `Precedence: bulk` are set for you.

If you set your own `List-Unsubscribe` header, Sendbaze keeps yours.

```json theme={"dark"}
{
  "from": "Yourshop <news@yourshop.co.za>",
  "to": "thandi@example.com",
  "subject": "New arrivals this week",
  "html": "<p>...</p><p><a href=\"{{unsubscribe_url}}\">Unsubscribe</a></p>",
  "class": "marketing",
  "tags": ["campaign:spring"]
}
```

## Rules

* Only send to people who opted in and keep a record of when and how. POPIA and the CAN-SPAM style rules of receiving providers both require it.
* Honour unsubscribes everywhere: an address marked `unsubscribe` still receives your transactional email (receipts, OTPs) but no marketing, and your other systems should follow suit through the webhook.
* Watch your complaint rate. At 3 or more complaints and a rate of 0.1% or more over 24 hours, sending pauses. See [reputation](https://docs.sendbaze.com/learn/deliverability/reputation.md).
* Send from a dedicated subdomain (`news.yourshop.co.za`) so campaigns never affect transactional delivery.

## Marketing SMS

The same class applies to SMS with an extra timing rule: 08:00 to 20:00 SAST, no Sundays or public holidays. Messages outside the window are held and sent at 08:00 on the next permitted day (the send response says `"status": "scheduled"`). Every marketing SMS carries an opt-out instruction, and a STOP reply suppresses the number for marketing. See [SMS](https://docs.sendbaze.com/learn/sms.md).
