# Introduction

> Sendbaze is the email and SMS API for businesses in Africa.

Sendbaze sends transactional email from your own domain through Amazon SES in Cape Town, and SMS through South African networks. Every send returns an id in milliseconds; delivery is reported by webhook and in the dashboard logs.

To get started you need:

1. A [Sendbaze API key](https://docs.sendbaze.com/get-started/create-api-key.md)
2. Your own domain, [verified with Sendbaze](https://docs.sendbaze.com/get-started/add-domain.md). Not ready yet? Every organisation can send its first 100 live emails to its own addresses from `onboarding@sendbaze.com`; see [send before your domain is verified](https://docs.sendbaze.com/get-started/test-without-a-domain.md).

Then you can send [both types of email](https://docs.sendbaze.com/get-started/email-types.md):

* **Transactional email**: order confirmations, OTPs, password resets, invoices. One recipient, triggered by an event.
* **Marketing email**: newsletters and promotions to people who opted in. Sendbaze adds the unsubscribe headers and watches your complaint rate for you.
